John’s client in a divorce case is accused of murdering his soon-to-be ex-wife, but the client rebuffs the firm’s offer to defend him in the criminal case since he would prefer a more high profile defense attorney.

This should be the end of the story, but the winery the couple had owned together also had some silent partners south of the border. The sort of silent partners who don’t like having their investments frozen by American law enforcement. After these “investors” intimidate the new counsel into refusing to defend the husband, he comes running back to John.
